About the event

Join us for our next Success Workshop - Making the most of your transferable skills

Whether you’re looking for a promotion, sidestepping to a similar role with a different organisation or making a complete career change, the chances are the job description is going to look different from your current one. How do convince your prospective employer that you have the right skills?

According to SEEK, research shows that 33% of job seekers would not apply for a job if they didn’t meet all the selection criteria. And that figure is even higher among women, with 65% saying they’d feel uncomfortable about applying, compared with just 41% of men. The truth is that most employers are open to hearing from you, even if you don’t tick all the boxes. In fact, 75% say they'd still consider hiring someone who didn’t meet the minimum requirements.

This workshop will help you:

  • Understand what transferable skills are and how to identify your own.
  • Explain how your skills will transfer to the new role at interview.
  • Assess which roles are worth applying for when you don’t meet all the criteria.
  • Understand which behaviours can set you up for success during the jobhunting process.
  • Impress a prospective employer!

Katie Oakes and Bianca Herbst from Hays Recruitment are delivering this workshop. Katie says, “Making a change is not easy. Creativity in a job search is often the best route to ensure you are opening yourself up to new opportunities. We’ll also explore different platforms to make sure you are looking into all the available opportunities out there, including setting up your digital profile.”

Please bring a notebook and pen so you can capture any insights for future use.

As usual, we will be starting at 12pm and finishing the workshop section at 1pm when we’ll enjoy networking and a light lunch kindly sponsored by KPMG.
