Many of us want to do the right thing and reduce our environmental footprint. World Environment Day earlier this month was a great chance to think about supporting Yes for Success and helping with our sustainability efforts towards a more sustainable approach to clothing and fashion.
Modern fashion is part of a worldwide environmental and social disaster. Globally, the fashion industry is responsible for 10 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, significantly contributing to climate change, as well as 20 per cent of global wastewater. And that is not accounting for the vast resources and toxic sprays that go into cotton production. Synthetic fabrics and their shedding of microplastics into water ways ends up in every part of our natural world, including us. (A modern human being ingests about a credit card’s worth of plastic per year).

Yes for Success offers you sustainable clothing choices
One of our aims at Yes for Success is to reduce some of these terrible environmental effects by diverting clothing from the landfill and reducing demand for new clothing in the first place. Plus, clothing is difficult to recycle, so reusing it is a way better option all round – reducing resource use, pollution, and waste problems.
Â
We have two Dressed boutiques and an online shop where you can purchase ‘gently worn’ clothing, and we use donated clothing when dressing our clients for job interviews, rental viewings, work attire – a whole range of occasions.
Â
New Zealand-made and designer fashion
New Zealand-made clothing is of a higher quality than your average chain store purchase and these items deserve a long and happy life. Â Do you have unused designer items in your wardrobe that you would like to donate to us? It will keep your good-quality clothing in use and out of the landfill, and it might even feature in our upcoming designer fashion show or in our special boutique sale.
