The Training Hub is more than just a place to learn job skills.  It is a place where confidence is rebuilt, strengths are discovered and the possibilities of something different are explored in a safe and nurturing environment.

It's hard to believe we are already halfway through the year. With two training cohorts now completed and another currently underway, it is fair to say that the Training Hub is finding its rhythm.

Over the past six months, we have had the privilege of supporting a growing number of MSD job seekers as they work towards their employment goals. Each cohort has brought together people from different backgrounds, with different experiences and aspirations, creating supportive learning environments where participants can build confidence, develop practical skills, and prepare for the next stage of their journey.

From CV development and interview preparation to workplace expectations, personal growth, and work-ready presentation, participants have embraced opportunities to learn, challenge themselves, and step outside their comfort zones.

As we reflect on the achievements of our recent cohorts, we are proud of the commitment, resilience, and progress we have witnessed. While every group has been different, each has demonstrated the same determination to move forward and create positive change.

March 2026 Cohort: Building Confidence and Connections

Our first cohort of the year quickly established a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Participants showed a willingness to engage with activities, share their experiences, and support one another throughout the programme.

Over the four weeks, confidence grew as participants explored their strengths, developed employment-focused skills, and worked towards personal goals. Many participants embraced interview practice, CV development, and job search activities, gaining a greater understanding of what employers are looking for.

One of the highlights of this cohort was the strong sense of connection that developed within the group. Participants celebrated one another's successes and provided encouragement during challenges, creating a positive learning environment that contributed to individual growth and achievement.

May 2026 Cohort: Momentum, Determination and Growth

Our second cohort brought a different dynamic, with participants demonstrating determination and a strong focus on preparing for employment opportunities.

Through practical workshops, group discussions, and personal development activities, participants continued to build workplace confidence while identifying the skills and strengths they could offer employers. Many showed significant growth over the four weeks, becoming more confident in presenting themselves professionally and engaging in interviews.

The Work Ready Styling Session was once again a standout experience, providing participants with the opportunity to build confidence through professional presentation and prepare for future employment opportunities. By graduation, participants had not only developed practical job-seeking skills but had also demonstrated increased self-belief and a clearer understanding of their goals and next steps.

This was helped by having guest speakers, from MSD, Work Brokers, Recruitment, Budgeting and Community Law. One of the aims of the training is to empower the students of the current market, their rights and responsibilities and about money, like tax, KiwiSaver, contracts and budgeting.

Looking Ahead

With another cohort already underway, we are excited to continue supporting participants as they take positive steps towards employment. We are working more closely with the MSD Work Brokers and creating relationships in the Wellington recruitment industry. It’s another opportunity for us as an organisation to extend our impact and services.

We look forward to celebrating more successes, building more confidence, and helping individuals recognise the value they bring to the workplace. Every cohort reminds us why this work is important, and we are grateful to be part of each participant's journey.

The Training Hub is more than just a place to learn job skills. It is a place where confidence is rebuilt, strengths are discovered and the possibilities of something different are explored in a safe and nurturing environment.
