Ella reached out to Yes for Success to join the Work Experience Programme and gained more than she anticipated, including new experiences in marketing, retail and administration at the Yes for Success Wellington Hub. Her dedication to learning new skills and helping others led to Ella securing a job aligned with her interests and values.
How did you hear about YFS?
"I came across Yes for Success online. In fact, it was a video testimonial of a previous Work Experience Volunteer that got me excited about the prospect of joining the Wellington Hub. It has been an amazing organisation to be a part of! I hope my story encourages you, too, to lend your time and skills to YFS through their Work Experience Programme."
Why did you come to us for assistance?
“I came to Yes for Success, seeking a Work Experience placement to gain new skills while contributing to an organisation that I believed in.”
How did our volunteers make you feel?
Yes for Success was an amazing place to be a part of, and I was welcomed with open arms. The unique talents and skills of each individual are honoured, and the volunteers were always learning from one another. I am particularly grateful to the Work Experience leads who dedicate their time to the organisation and to Sasmita, the amazing Hub Coordinator.
Did our programme(s) meet your expectations?
The Work Experience Volunteer Programme is dynamic! While my main area of work was Human Resources, I had the opportunity to gain experience and perform additional tasks in many other fields, including administration, marketing and retail.
The hub is always buzzing with events, seminars and training sessions, which means you’re constantly learning, while being flexible to jump in wherever help is needed. The work experience programme provides plenty of management and leadership opportunities, which help develop your ability to suggest and manage small-scale projects within the organisation. It is a space where creativity is encouraged, and the team pulls together and collaborates to bring ideas to fruition and make them work.
What was the result?
During my time at Yes for Success, I developed valuable skills to secure a job that aligns with my interests and values. I now work as a Health Care Assistant, primarily supporting our Elders.
How would you define success?
For me, success is having the skills and gaining new skills, experience and resources to contribute back to the larger community.
What next? Have you set any goals?
Currently, I am dedicating myself to my new job and role as a Health Care Assistant. This coming year, I will be working towards completing my Certificate in Health and Wellbeing. After a period of hands-on experience in healthcare, I’m considering the prospect of further academic studies in the field of Health Psychology.
