Keeping in touch

How do we know we’re providing valuable service?
Because people come back for more! We love to keep in touch with our clients and volunteers and to watch their lives grow and progress. Some might come for a dress styling then sign up for our wider programmes. Others join as volunteers and become lifelong customers or even donors.
Recently we were delighted to welcome back one of our work experience volunteers for the third time. Over the years they have joined our hubs in Auckland and Wellington to broaden their skillset and get work ready. This time they focused on stretching their skills and experience in business support and retail work, building confidence and simply enjoying the work environment.
“I felt included. All the teams, no matter what the role, were professional, responsible and conscientious. This is why I returned to volunteering.”
We helped them identify and plug gaps in their retail and human resources experience, knowledge that they then shared with other volunteers. Their hard work has paid off. We’re thrilled that after three months with us they are now thriving in a new job.
“I’m so happy. After nearly a year of searching, I have found the perfect role. My new workplace is very inclusive and encourages everyone to bring their best selves to work. Their culture truly resonates with me, it’s a place where I can be myself and feel at home. I find it so exhilarating, coming to work and feeling more capable and grounded each week.”
This kind of feedback reminds us of the importance of what we do at YFS, supporting people as they find their place and reshape their lives.
